Utah Foster Care

Matt and I attended an adoption/foster care forum last night at the LDS Family Services, Sandy Agency. It was very informative and really opened our eyes to some things we hadn't thought about or didn't realize. It changed our minds about doing Foster Care.

Until now, Matt and I have had serious reservations about doing Foster Care for the simple reason that, emotionally, we just didn't think we could handle it. However, after meeting and hearing 3 different couple's stories last night and having a lot of questions answered, we've come to realize that it' s not necessarily about us. It's about the children who need love, caring, and stability in their lives. If we can offer that to a child......for even a short time........then maybe it will help to better their life.

Matt and I only have a few more legal documents, etc, to get turned in to LDS Family Services in order to get our approval. We are also currently working on getting our website done with LDS as well. We should probably have our approval in the next few weeks or month. It has taken a long time to get here........for different reasons. Mostly due to a combination of finding time to get all of the paperwork, etc, done..............and, truth be told, also some fear of the unknown. Lately, though, we've been feeling more of an urgency to get it done and are working to make it happen faster.

After last night, Matt and I have also now made the decision to pursue adoption through Foster Care as well. We've decided that we will complete the process with LDS Family Services and get our approval............and then we will also work on getting licensed through the State to become Foster Parents as well. At that point, we will continue to pray and will leave it in the Lord's hands to help us find our children.

We realize that Foster Care may be very hard at times and we may get our hearts broken a time or 2........but we will go into it with an open mind and allow whatever is supposed to happen happen. Hopefully, we can help do some good in this world for at least one child........

My Aunt and Uncle have fostered multiple children in their home. While it is difficult at times, they continue to do it over and over because of the awesome experience it is for them and for the child. Whichever route you take, I'm sure you'll be rewarded greatly! Keep us posted!

Hey Darla,
Long time no see! We hardly ever see Ryan and Trish either. I check your blog every once in a while to keep in touch. Anyway, I have two families in my ward that have adopted via foster care. One family has 5 boys (that are from two different mothers) and the other has 3 boys (a set of twins they've adopted and a baby under one they are fostering). They love those boys and it has been a wonderful blessing in their lives. I hope it will work for you guys if it is right for you. Good luck either way!
