Grocery Shopping and Couponing

So those of you who know me well, know that I've developed quite an enjoyment of baking and cooking. I LOVE collecting good cookbooks and cooking websites to try new recipes from!

I also love a really great deal when I'm shopping as well! Grocery shopping just keeps getting more and more ridiculously expensive, so I'm constantly on the lookout for ways to save money. I'm still trying to find just what works best for me as far as saving time AND money. I had gotten frustrated for a while and gave up......was just shopping pretty much at Walmart and Sam's Club. But just in the last week or 2 I've really started to get a great desire again to start back to couponing and sale shopping so that I can get the most for my buck. I know that it works.....but I tend to get really frustrated and give up easily. :)

Anyway, Matt and I usually watch the 10:00 news together at night before we go to bed....just to kind of keep up on what's going on in the world. I saw this report: http://www.ksl.com/?nid=148&sid=15514795 on the news the other night and became very interested in learning more of these women's secrets in how they are saving SO MUCH MONEY grocery shopping!

I began looking into one of the websites: www.DealstoMeals.com and have started trying it out to see if it will help me in saving time and money in my grocery shopping. I really like that she gives you a weekly meal planner (of good, fresh foods that we like to eat), as well as food storage recipes and yummy dessert recipes. She then shops the stores based off of the sales that are happening that week.......and she usually price matches everything at Walmart to save time and money. I tried it out for the first time this past Saturday and had to stock up on a few things so I really didn't end up saving much money yet. There are things that I really do like about her website a lot......but I'm still not entirely sold that she's saving the most money because she's not utilizing coupons, too. I've been thinking that I'm still going to try to incorporate coupons into the savings as well in order to double my savings. I also realize that it's going to take a few weeks, maybe even a couple months, to get stocked up and really begin to see my savings the most.....so I have to be patient, which I haven't necessarily been in the past. :)

As it turns out, Matt came to me on Saturday as well and asked if I was interested in going to a little 'class' of sorts that one of his contractor's wife was going to do for anyone at Sprinkler World that was interested in learning about how to save as much money as possible on grocery shopping. We went on Monday night and she showed us this website: www.grocerysmarts.com
and how she does it. As soon as I saw the website, I knew that it was one that I had seen and used once before in the past. I can attest that it does work. She saves CRAZY amounts of money on grocery shopping and she took us down to her basement to see storage she's got built up.....basically by spending seriously next to NOTHING! It was AWESOME!! As I said, I recognized this website, but I had quit using it before because I got frustrated with it. I didn't have anyone to sit down with me before and show me her tricks and give me advice on how to make it work for me. Plus, the website has changed a bit (for the better) since I last used it a few years ago, so I'm excited to give a try again. I think I'm actually going to try to kind of incorporate BOTH "Deals to Meals" AND "Grocery Smarts" into my shopping and see how it goes for me for a bit. If I find that I like both, then I'll keep using them both. But if I find that I like one website better than the other, then I'll only use that website. We'll see!

When I'm couponing and shopping sales.....I find that grocery shopping actually becomes sort of a 'sport' for me. It becomes somewhat of a game to see just how much money I can save each trip. Yes, I'm a geek, I know! LOL I'm seriously one of the cheapest people out there and I HATE spending so much money on grocery shopping!! :)

I'll keep you posted on how it works out for me! :)
